We were delighted to discover a series of pastel drawings called Innamorati in the Jean Cocteau Museum in Menton, France. The pictures, below, show a local couple, the tanned male fisherman in traditional cap, and the sheltered, pale peasant girl in scarf, in various stages of their courtship, including moonlit serenades and embraces on the beach at Menton.

Imagine our surprise when we found Cocteau's alternative, homoerotic drawings of that same fisherman in a book I bought the following week in Paris. I would like to think that, today, that Menton fisherman wouldn't have to get married to the girl, but could instead play with his male friends on the beach as he clearly wants to do...

I think this one's kind of cute.
