We arrived in Aix early on Saturday morning, which coincided with market day in the town that was Cézanne's home - a perfect treat after listening to our book on tape. We stopped here for a few hours before heading off to Grasse. | ||

We were based
near Grasse for our week in Provence. It was an ideal location for exploring
the area, including the coast. |

The Chapelle du Rosarie in Vence was designed and decorated by Henri Matisse. |
We waited for the chapel to open and admired the blue tiled roof outside. |
|
Matisse designed the altarpiece, the candles, and, of course, the stained glass windows. |
On this wall are the Stations of the Cross, depicted by Matisse in black on white tiles. |
