We celebrated Nick's birthday in Newbury on our friends' canal boat. Because the Big Day is in January, we extended the celebrations into February, when half term provides time to get away. |
Nick was given a new outfit, including a sweater, t-shirt, and leather jacket. |
We ate a nice Italian meal at a canal side restaurant. |
This is the low fat dessert we made to accompany the traditional German chocolate cake. |

Here we are, beside the canal. |
Most of these photos were taken by our friend, Gillie. |

And his cute friend with pre-mature grey hair. |
As a birthday treat, we saw Stephen Sondheim's "Merrily We Roll Along" at the Watermill Theatre in Newbury. All the actors played one or more instruments, including the hunky Steve Watts, who played trumpet and trombone. George played in the orchestra for this show in university, and we both saw another, equally good production of it at the Donmar Warehouse a few years ago. |

Later, in February, we continued Nick's birthday celebrations with a trip to Devon. |

One of our main goals was Riverford farm, the source of our weekly organic fruit and vegetable box. |

Later, we explored Becky Falls. |

We booked tickets to see "Contains Violence" in April. The show takes place in an office building into which the audience peers with binoculars and headphones. It seems from the photo below that the audience is encouraged to attend nude! |
|
We're also going to see a stage version of "Brief Encounter", that is set in the cinema where the film was first shown. |
