After the rainiest January on record, February provided some hints of spring. Click HERE for photos from Spring 2013. |
George travelled to Liverpool and saw the Beatles and Paul O'Grady rendered in jellybeans and some lovelocks at Albert Dock. Click HERE to see our last visit to Liverpool. |
We travelled to London to see Laurence Fox and Jack Huston in Strangers on a Train. The set received the most glowing reviews, but the whole show was thrilling. Click HERE to see our photo from Laurence Fox's first concert. Note: since this page was created, Laurence Fox has become something different from the actor/singer we used to admire. His political views and personality have become abhorrent. Let's hope he moves past this stage. |
We visited the market in Brick Lane and saw one of the world's many mosaic Space Invaders. |
We love watching Poirot and finally visited the apartments used as Whitehaven Mansions in the series.. |
Scarlett Strallen stole the show in the Menier Chocolate Factory's excellent production of Candide. |
Lured by its title, we visted the Men in Pants exhbition by Evelyn de Morgan and discovered that the lady could draw! |
De Morgan's pre-Raphaelite artwork was a great place to start on our day of investigating London's art and achitecture. |
My special gift from Nick for Christmas 2013 was a baking and butchery workshop with Henry and Tom Herbert, TV's Fabulous Baker Brothers, reminiscent of my Mexican food workshop days with Thomasina Miers. Click HERE to see my 2017 encounter with the Brothers. |
We stayed at the Rounceval House Hotel in Chipping Sodbury. Tom taught us how to knead and Henry stuffed sausages. |
The food was fresh and excellent quality and Tom was an expert tosser. In fact, we were encouraged to make a bell sound each time innuendo was heard. "Bread dough without salt is like sending a teenager to Ayia Napa with a credit card - the results would be sticky, messy, and uncultured" - Tom Herbert. |
Henry showed us the family slaughterhouse and we made pita and focaccia bread to eat for lunch. |
I shared my recipe for gorgonzola focaccia (from The Itlaian Bakerby Carol Field) with Tom, who couldn't stop himself from making it on the day. Both brothers signed my copy of their Glorious British Grub and we feasted on juicy burgers, charred in their family fireplace. An unforgettable day out! |
